Calm amidst madness

Am finding unexpected pockets of time even with the chaos. Hopefully, some sort of a routine will be established soon. Right now, it's post-natal theraphy, people visiting and trying to get the hang of breast-feeding and cat-napping.

Post-natal theraphy: Malay madness! There is the bengkung madness (actually quite fun except when you sweat. For the uninitiated, bengkung is the Malay version of a corset). Baby is not spared - he gets bedung (swaddled) which is his least favourite thing, and a mini-corselet (forgot the name) thing, which he has no reaction to. Rehan's favourite thing: bath time. Hee hee.

So, maddest thing done: standing with knickers off over burning coal and some sort of incense...sauna Malay style. The massages are great though. Least favourite thing: pilis (herbal stuff you put on your forehead. Don't ask me what for. I don't know. Wail!). Most favourite: the stuff on my boobs. V good for swollen breasts. Ha ha. Joys of breast-feeding: it really hurts. The Hurrah squadron insists that breast-feeding doesn't hurt if done properly (hah. blame it on the mother. what a way to encourage breast-feeding). But here's a reality check - it hurts when your nipples crack, it hurts when your breasts are so full of milk and the baby won't wake up. And it's not just me...many mothers who have successfully breast-fed reassures me this is normal. So, take that sanctimonious prigs! (As you can tell, am not a big fan of people telling me to breast-feed, even though I had decided to do it. Bih.)

Errr...obsessing over breast-feeding. Meanwhile, the baby is free and clear of jaundice (hurrah! alhamdullilah) so no more check ups until Hep B jab. Little Rehan is a real warrior - having jabs and blood taken only elicts a mild 'eek' and he goes back to sleep. Heh.

A little non-sequiter: why should one not look a gift horse in the mouth? Remember the Trojan Horse?!

On a more sober note: One of my friend's father passed away recently. My condolences to her and prayers for her father. Hugs!

Salam Az...
Aiyoh,you and your breastfeeding woes!

Here's some tips if you are game enough to try and well, according to the old wives',they do help...

1)Press a hot towel over your mammaries when they swell. It helps to keep the milk flowing. Also, whenever you take a hot shower, massage them in a circular motion. REALLY massage them!

2)On those nights when your boobs feel engorged with milk, get cabbage leaves to cup them. The cabbage leaves are cooling and soothe the pain.

Let me know if you do decide to try them and they work.
I need confirmation that my sources are reliable.
Hehe..

Anyway, Az...
Motherhood is one of life's most priceless joys and you are indeed blessed to experience it.

When else in Rehan's life would you be able to cuddle him close to you as he suckles on you, deeply contented and sated?

Does it not make you feel special and needed that you and only you could give him that bliss?

Start the tango on motherhood babe!
It started from the very moment you conceived!

I doa Allah grant strength, patience and wisdom on you guys as you begin your journey as parents.
Remember, you are the best parents Rehan could ever have; hence Allah gave him to you.
And Rehan is the best son you could ever have; hence Allah gave you him...

For better or worse, even in death and in the Hereafter, Rehan is your son.

Woi people!!
FYI,someone's hubby who is also someone's father does read someone's blog and KORANG NI TAU SEGAN LAH SIKIT!(nak kena jitak jugak tau minah2 ni semua!)

Kamal, either way following the clock motion is circular.
Please dun be a typical Malay Minah. You are not blonde no matter how much you aspire to be.

And Ros, at least I am doing research for our new mum ok!Susah2 aku buat muka tebal tanya sana sini pasal breastfeeding tau and I share...gua tak makan sorang beb.If it works,Alhamdulillah. If not, I go do my rounds of asking again.Makcik2 pun pelik apsal anak dara sekor ni belum kahwin belum apa dah tanya pasal breastfeeding...but they like the attention I gave and the opportunity to 'lament' their past.

To Tuan Rumah, apologies on behalf of these meminahs ya!

Just have to love them actually... ;p
